How To Change Your Lawn Mower Oil

This article is going to cover changing your lawn mower engine oil. I found a cool video that I figured we’d break down into a step by step plan.

Step 1 – Find And Clean The Dipstick

Locate the dipstick and clean the area around it with a cloth or paper towel.

Step 2 – Remove The Fill Plug

Once clean, remove the dipstick or fill plug.

Step 3 – Tip Mower On The Side

Tip the mower on it’s side and let the oil drain out.

Step 4 – Stand Upright

Once completely empty, stand back up so it can be refilled. Most mowers will require SAE 30 oil, but always check your manual.

Step 5 – Refill With Recommended Oil

On a level surface, slowly fill the mower with oil. Use a funnel and never pour onto a hot engine.

Step 6 – Check Oil Level

Slowly fill the mower with oil until it reaches the fill line marked on the dipstick. Be careful not to overfill!

Step 7 – Replace The Plug Or Dipstick

Once full, replace and hand tighten the plug or dipstick.

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial! Here is a link to the original video!
